What is Occupational Therapy?
Occupational Therapy is a form of therapy that works to promote independence and an ability to accomplish daily tasks.
What is an Occupational Therapist?
Occupational therapists focus on helping people achieve independence in all areas of their lives, specifically in daily activities such as eating, grooming, dressing and playing. Children with various special needs can benefit from working with occupational therapists to improve their cognitive, physical and motor skills, and to enhance their self-esteem and sense of accomplishment. Occupational therapists evaluate children’s skills for playing, school performance and daily activities and compare then to wat is developmentally appropriate for that child’s age. Psychological, social and environmental factors can also affect how a child functions and an occupational therapist will evaluate these factors in addition to a child’s physical capabilities.
Since we do not have an occupational therapist on staff, we provide occupational therapy services with the help of external groups of occupational therapists who volunteer at The Center.
